The Tsampa & Barley Cluster is rooted in one of Ladakh’s most important traditional foods. Barley has shaped local diets, farming practices, and household food systems for generations. Through Amaley, this cluster connects women-led SHGs, farming families, and local processors working with roasted barley, tsampa, flour, mixes, and value-added grain products.

Barley is not just a crop in Ladakh; it is part of everyday food, culture, farming identity, and community resilience. Tsampa, made from roasted barley, has supported families through harsh winters, long journeys, and changing seasons.
The Tsampa & Barley Cluster helps bring this traditional grain into a modern livelihood and product system. Women-led SHGs and local producer families are supported to clean, roast, grind, package, and present barley-based products in a way that respects tradition while improving quality, hygiene, branding, and market access.
